Why I’m Upgrading My Desk Decor
No long and expensive commute was feeling pretty great. Pushing my way onto a crowded train, praying that I would find a seat, hoping for no delays, and paying an expensive fare left me stressed and exhausted before I even reached the office.
Like many others, I welcomed the ability to spend more time with my children and have at least two extra hours to join a book club, exercise, and not feel that panic of being late for a call or meeting. But recently, and I’m not really sure why, I’m missing the office. Maybe it’s because there was a reason to get dressed up, gave some variety to the day, and offered the opportunity to make friends with people that I might not normally get to meet when working from home exclusively.
These feelings led me to thinking about the items that I left a the office. A beautiful notebook given to me by my co-worker. Then a calendar with inspiring quotes. A few favorite pens. A bunch of photos that I really liked. You know, everyone decorated their area just enough to make it feel like home. Now that I’m at home, I’m craving a bit of an office feeling.
Here are a few items that I’m looking at to get that in the office feeling at home. It’s funny and perhaps and bit different then all of the statistics we are hearing about — that people don’t want to return to the office. But maybe it’s not as true as they say. Time will tell!
LOVE DESK MATS
First off, I decided to order a custom desk pad from Love Desk Mats. The rubber lattice will ensure that no matter how you use your mat, it will stay in place. I just love how my mouse glides on the smooth surface and feels comfortable as I work at my desk all day. A BIT OF GREENERY
They say that houseplants are all the rage and that a bit of nature makes you feel calmer. I immediately fell in love with this prayer plant from Bloomscape. Billed as needing relatively low maintenance seems like the perfect plant for me! If the plant dies within 30 days they will replace it for free. I already feel more motivated and positive!
THE BIG SPLURGE
I decided to splurge on a proper desk chair. As there now seems to be very little difference between working at the office and going home, I find myself working more hours. People who have to take care of their kids are starting at 5am and finishing at 11pm, and to be flexible it seems like we have to be checking and answering emails that those times too. Having been through all of that I completely understand and feel like it’s the best that I can do to help out. I love Poppin for their great designs and splurged on the Max Tax Chair.
